Types of Gold Coins

Gold comes in many different forms. Each different form of gold serves different purposes from collections, jewelry, to people's financial portfolios.

Collecting different types of gold coins is a special hobby and there are various types of gold coins available for investors and collectors alike.

Different Types of Gold

American Gold Eagle: the American Gold Eagle is the most popular world wide gold coin. It is the official gold bullion coin of the United States. One interesting aspect is that copper and silver alloy is added to increase the wear and tear on the coins.

South African Krugerrand: from the South African Mint, the Kurgerrand is South Africa's version of a gold bullion coin. One side has Paul Kruger the former President and the other side has the native springbok.

Chevronets: Russia minted these starting in 1701 only to replace them with the Ruble in 1757. Oddly enough Russia would reintroduce these coins after the value in the Ruble decreased. The Chevronet production stopped in 1925.

Brittania: the United Kingdom's gold bullion version which also includes copper and sliver. Brittanias come in denominations of £10, £25 and £50.

Gold Panda: the Chinese gold coin version is 99.9% gold with a temple of heaven on one side.

Gold Dinar: new in 2006 the Gold Dinar has been used in Malaysia as part of people's dowries and buying goods and services

Gold Maple Leaf: the gold bullion coins of the Canadian Mint which also is comprised of 99.9% gold content.
